Hello community partners and advocates,
The Fair and Accessible Renting for Everyone (FARE) Coalition is working to amplify community voices in the push to make housing in Seattle more accessible to people with criminal records. We are working to put the public back in public policy by organizing a Community Bill Drafting event this September 8th.
Whether we are impacted by our own encounters with the criminal justice system or those of a loved one, or we simply share the vision of a more diverse community that the discriminatory nature of policing and courts currently disallows, we all have a reason to care about this issue. The FARE Coalition is made up of community groups, advocacy organizations, and individuals who understand that a meaningful policy of systematic inclusion will be most successful if it is guided by the lived experiences of the systematically excluded.
The event is for you, your constituents, your neighbors, and the public and will be a new opportunity to let our legislators know what you and your community have experienced. From this event we will produce YOUR legislation to be presented to the Seattle City Council and the Mayor’s Office as the model for how to move forward on this issue effectively. Please come to share, to listen, and to support.
